Controlled Implosion of the Sheraton Crossroads Hotel in Mahwah, New Jersey

Sheraton Mahwah Hotel, NJ

On May 11, 2025, the 22-story Sheraton Crossroads Hotel in Mahwah, New Jersey, was taken down in a planned explosion. This demolition was part of a local redevelopment project. Danco General Contracting, Inc. managed the project, while Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) handled the explosives.

The Sheraton was built in 1987 but had been empty for many years. With permission from local officials, a plan was made to safely demolish the building quickly, while keeping nearby properties safe.

To do this, CDI used a technique called linear charge sequencing. This method weakens important supports in the building. It helped the building fall straight down into its own space. Local officials helped make sure everything was safe by closing roads, controlling the area, and having licensed professionals handle the explosion.

The whole implosion was recorded and shared on CDI’s official YouTube channel. The video shows how exact modern demolition can be.
